Serim was first introduced to pottery by a studio potter in Malawi then she got into design thinking and ceramic manufacturing techniques during her BA 3D Designer Maker programme at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent. Now she is continuing her pottery training at Icheon pottery village in Korea.
Her work revolves around the dialogue that happens between the maker and the material during the creative process, mostly through material investigation and process-led approaches. Some of her forms are influenced by traditional Korean pottery due to her heritage and interest in the historical and cultural aspects of clay. Through her work, she hopes to continue to grow her personal language as a maker, aiming for a higher quality of making.
